Account currency
Account currency is the currency a Google Ads account is billed in and reports in, chosen once when the account is created.
How it works
You choose the currency on the billing step when you create the account. Google doesn’t let you change it later, because it determines how the account is billed. The choice depends on the country the account is registered in: some countries allow only certain currencies.
You set budgets in this currency, Google bills you in it and always reports conversion values in it. Google converts a value sent in another currency at the average daily exchange rate. So in an account that sells in several currencies, ROAS moves with the rate. Product prices in the feed are a separate matter: each price in Merchant Center carries its own currency code.
A store that needs a different currency opens a new account. You can copy campaigns into it through a manager account or Google Ads Editor, but historical data stays in the old one. Selling in several currencies covers how to compare markets fairly.
Example
Example store, not client data.
The tableware shop’s account runs in Czech koruna (CZK). For Slovakia it opens a second account in euros. In a month the CZK account spends 40,000 and brings 180,000 in conversion value; the EUR account spends 400 and brings 1,800.
Added up, that makes 40,400 and 181,800, but each sum mixes two currencies. The ratios still compare: ROAS is 180,000 ÷ 40,000 = 4.5 in one account and 1,800 ÷ 400 = 4.5 in the other.
Not to be confused with
- Currency conversion — how Google shows ad prices in the shopper’s currency and brings order values from other currencies into the account currency, which itself stays fixed.
Right and wrong readings
- Wrong: “When we start selling in euros, we’ll switch the account currency in the settings.” Right: the account currency can’t be changed. A different currency means a new account, and its history starts from zero.
- Wrong: “Our two accounts spent 40,400 between them.” Right: that sum adds koruna to euros. Convert at one rate first, or compare ratios such as ROAS.
